Travelling to Ottawa

Ottawa can be reached either by

  • Air: MacDonald-Cartier International Airport (YOW) is the main airport in the Ottawa area and is a 20min drive from the downtown area. A Taxi from the airport to the conference will be ~40$, 20mins to downtown). There is also an option to take the LRT straight from the terminal (OCTranpo) and payment can be made via Credit or Debit Card or PrestoCard.
  • Rail: The main VIA rail station is also on an LRT line and is 3 stops from the uOttawa station.
  • Road: Driving to Ottawa from the east (Montreal) will involve either traveling on Highway 417 on the Ontario-side or Autoroute 50 on the Quebec-side.
From the west, travel is via the Highway 401 from Toronto, to Highway 416 which will connect to Highway 417, which is known at the "Queensway" in the city of Ottawa.

Getting around Ottawa

OCTranspo is the (occasionally maligned) public transit system in Ottawa. Major access nodes (Airport, Via Rail station) are on the LRT system, which is reliable. That said, once at the conference, almost all scientific and social activities can be access most efficiently on foot. Maps of the University of Ottawa and adjacent Byward Market area are avilable via the links. Ottawa tourism is also a useful source of way-finding information.
